The Effect of Occupation-based Intervention on Patients with Subacute Stroke and Unilateral neglect: A Case Study

Abstract

|
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of occupation-based intervention in stroke patients with subacute phase unilateral neglect.
Methods: One person with stroke had ADOC, which allowed the subject to choose meaningful activities, and conducted intervention using Occupational Performance Coaching and occupation-based video feedback techniques. Experiments were performed at baseline 10 sessions, intervention sessions once a day, 30 minutes per session, 4 sessions a week, and 16 sessions, followed by 4 weeks.
Result: When using Occupational Performance Coaching and occupation-based video feedback intervention, subject¡¯s pen and paper tests of unilateral neglect and neurobehavioral impairments of A-ONE were decreased and his occupational performance and satisfaction in natural environment were improved in follow-up evaluation than the baseline.
Conclusion: As a result of applying occupation-based intervention to patients with unilateral stroke, his unilateral neglect were decreased in his handwriting tests and the observational tests, as well as occupational performance and satisfaction were improved.
